AK BHO Yugo mags

Since LukeNM deleted his post about the AMMOMAN.COM BHO Yugo mags deal, as they weren't real (or functioning) bolt-hold-open mags and I assume he didn't want to mislead people, I decided to start this new thread to show what these mags are (or aren't).

I ordered 10 of them right after the original post was first posted, since I'd been looking for some for quite some time and was having a hard time finding them. The deleted thread had a few links to places actually selling BHO Yugo mags, and luckily I bookmarked one of them: https://www.apexgunparts.com. If anyone has knows of other places that have them in stock, please let us know.

My order was delivered this evening. Since I'd read last night about the possibility of them not being what they were sold as (and the ad at ammoman.com being changed to remove the bolt-hold-open wording), I checked them out immediately. I tried all 10 in my Yugo AK, and none of them worked. Of course, just looking at them as I took them out of the box, I could tell they weren't the same and probably wouldn't function properly.

Here's a couple of pictures of showing the non-bho "Yugo" mag on the left and one of my real BHO Yugo mags on the right:

The one of the left looks kind of a like a picture of a Chinese replica BHO mag that someone had posted in the old thread, but what I got looks like a cheap replica of a cheap Chinese replica. :confused_ma: The raised part of the follower sits too low and the bolt goes right over it without ever touching it.

Someone else in the old thread said he'd called someone at AMMOMAN.COM and been told he could send them back and get his money returned, so that's what I'm going to try to do tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ag Capone, Thanks for heads up. Looks like a good web site. It took me a while to find it though so here is the link:

Apex has these for $17 each.

They have a lot of surplus Yugo parts there. I bought a few M64 kits from them before they sold out. They came as described in about 5 buisness days.

Sorry if my post mislead anyone -- I copied and pasted the ad as I received it in my email... I do not own an AK type rifle and therefore I did not realize that this was such a big deal to those of you that do.

$15 for any AK mag is a good deal.

I don't think these people should have crucified you for it.:452:

Keep on posting the deals. It's not your fault that the company misrepresented their product.

I think those can be remedied with some time & effort. The mag has to be taken apart and the inside 'stop' ground off so the follower will go all the way up to stop the bolt.

Remove the "bumps"

After "bump" removal and installation of follower

Keep in mind I haven't done this myself so there's no Guarranty that it'll work. :bear_rolleyes:

Re: AK BHO Yugo mags

Thanks for letting me know they can be fixed. I just dug my Dremel out of the garage and disassembled one of the new mags (WARNING: There's a big :censored: spring inside the magazine (duh!), and when you slide off the bottom plate it will want to shoot out of the magazine along with the rest of the follower. If you happen to be looking directly at it while disassembling it, IT WILL HIT YOU IN THE FACE! :banghead: Either aim it away from your face, or hold the spring and follower in place with your other hand before you completely remove the bottom plate.)

It took me less than a minute to grind down the two bumps, and after reassembly, it works great.

So now I just need to get the other 9 fixed, but at least I don't have to deal with shipping them back and getting a refund.

And thanks again to LukeNM for letting us know about this deal. :coolbeer: You had no way of knowing there would be a problem with the product, but at least it's easily fixable. It would have been nice if they were real Yugo mags instead of copies, but they get the job done. Besides, I had also been looking at buying regular mags and converting them, but I couldn't find the followers anywhere either. And with the current prices of regular AK mags, purchasing them and the followers separately would likely cost as much or more than this deal did anyway.
